Happy Holidays!

Well, it’s been a busy last week of term including our performance of The Pirates of the Curry Bean and Race for Life.

The children performed brilliantly in all of the shows and were very convincing in their roles as rats, monkeys and sailors – and not forgetting the scary gorilla!!! They all enjoyed the performances and it was lovely to see them confidently taking to the stage as well as singing and dancing their hearts out.

The children braved the rainy weather on Friday and ran the Race for Life with smiles on their faces. We are very proud of how much they have raised for charity. Many thanks for your kind donations.

We have also managed to squeeze in some learning about different types of triangles and lines of symmetry to finish the term.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for all of the generous and thoughtful gifts we have received. We have loved teaching the class this term and seeing the children enjoying their learning and working hard has been a reward in itself – the gifts and cards are an added bonus, so thank you!

We wish all of you a happy and healthy summer and are looking forward to seeing the Year 3s back and raring to go in September. We would also like to wish the Year 4s the very best of luck in Year 5. Happy holidays one and all!

Rehearsals Galore

In Maths this week, the children have been learning about shape and enjoyed making 3D shapes out of straws and play dough. In English, they have been using the story map created last week to adapt the story to plan and write their own versions.

The second half of this week has been spent in rehearsals, including a dress rehearsal in which the children donned their costumes and, we have to say, looked fabulous. They have been perfecting their performances and are excited to show everyone next week.

On Thursday, the children enjoyed meeting their new teachers and/or classmates in the morning and then spent the afternoon enjoying a rounders match. We finished off the day with a visit to the hall where the Reception children were displaying their wonderful castles and we enjoyed learning all about how they had made them.

Sports Day Fun

We were really impressed with how the children approached Sports Day this week with a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude. They demonstrated fantastic sporting skill as well as great sportsmanship, team work and resilience. Well done to all who took part.

In Maths this week, we have been learning about different types of angles: acute, obtuse and right angles. We have looked for them in every day objects as well as identifying angles in shapes. We even had a go at finding angles in our names.

In English, we have been learning a pirate story off by heart using a story map to help us remember it. Ask your child if they can recite it to you at home without the map! We have looked for specific language features in the story and used the story map as a basis for planning our own pirate story, changing only key parts of the story. Next week, we will be having a go at writing our own stories using the innovated story maps to guide us and then will move on to writing our own pirate themed adventure stories.
